Silva & La Cruz, Cuba's Best of 2017

Pole vaulter Yarisley Silva and boxer Julio Cesar La Cruz were chosen by Cuban Sport's authorities and the media as the best Athletes of the Year. Beside, it was announced the list of Cuba's most oustanding athletes and teams of 2017.

  Silva won bronze medal at London World Championships, but also got a gold, a silver and a bronze medal at Diamond League. La Cruz clinched his fourth world title; won five fights at the 7th World Series and topped 81 kilograms division.

  The Tamers of Cuba (Boxing) were elected Best Team, since they won the Hamburg World Championships and the Pan American Tournament, and were second in the World Boxing Series. Besides, boxing was the Most Oustanding Individual Sport.

  The Most Outstanding Team Sport was Volleyball, since it won the silver medal at U-21 World Championship and the bronze at U-23; and got a ticket to World Cup 2018.

  Lidiannys Echevarria was the Best Woman Athlete in Team Sports, finishing ninth at Verna World Championship of Beach Volleyball, and won two golden medals and two silver ones at the Norceca circuit.

  Slugger Alfredo Despaigne was the Best Man Athlete in Team Sports, leading Japanese Professional League in homeruns with a career high of runners batted in. Boxer Andy Cruz was Rookie of the Year.
