Spanish airline Wamos Air confirmed it would resume flights in the route Madrid-Guatemala with an extension to Cuba as tourist destination, next May 29. Director of Wamos, Salvador Martínez, announced the company would resume direct flights Guatemala-Cuba (Varadero) and Cuba (Varadero)-Guatemala in a press conference attended by the Director General of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, Jorge Mario Chajon and Carlos Cespedes Piedra, Cuban ambassador in that Central American country. Céspedes, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the results of two years of efforts to take steps which would not only benefit the smokeless industry, but also strengthen economic, trade and health tourism links, among other modalities.
As it was known, Cuba and Guatemala have signed an agreement of Multi-destination Tourism, called Playa-Maya, and over 20 agreements in different fields. The Cuban ambassador in his words also stressed the 20 years of uninterrupted presence in Guatemala of the Cuban Medical Brigade, which would benefit from this direct connection with Cuba, flight that does not exceed one hour 50 minutes. The Wamos Air company will mark this year its 15th anniversary with weekly flights on Tuesday, from May 29 thru November 6. The route -Madrid, Varadero, Cuba, Guatemala and viceversa- will be operated with an airplane Boeing 747/400 with a capacity for 529 passengers and very competitive prices for Central Americans.
