With Strength and Compás company Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba returns to scene

The company Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC) will celebrate, from October 19, the 26th anniversary of its foundation and the Cuban Culture Day with the reinstatement of the successful show Fuerza y compás. The setting exposes the syncretism of the Spanish and African roots in the culture of this country, originated by the Spanish colonization and the introduction on the island of slaves from Africa. According to a statement from LADC, the show Fuerza y compás got it to become the first Cuban dance group to stage a steady season at the New Victory Theater on Broadway in the United States. The director of the company, Lizt Alfonso, is also the author of most of the choreographies of the sunset that will be on the billboard of the National Theater of Cuba this day 19 and 20, 21 and 22 October. Every October 20, the country celebrates the National Culture Day, instituted in commemoration of one of the most important events in the history of the country: the first intonation of the Cuban National Anthem, and on this date many institutions of the country provide samples of homage and respect. After participating in the 15th International Ballet Festival in Bodrum, Turkey, the danzario collective aspires to satisfy one of the biggest claims of many of its followers with the replacement of Force and Compás in one of the main stages of this capital. Alfonso received on November 15 from the then First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, the International Spotlight Award for Arts and Humanities, awarded each year by the White House. In those days, the institution made its ninth tour of the United States during which it acted in cities of states like Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina and California. The ensemble founded 25 years ago by Alfonso, teacher and choreographer, has been applauded in more than 200 cities around the world for the impact of its fusion style, agglutinative elements of flamenco, ballet, contemporary dance, folklore and dissimilar folk dances . The company is the only Cuban dance group that has managed to perform at the popular Latin Grammy Awards, and in 2008 it won the DORA International Award in Toronto, Canada, for Best Choreography of a Musical in the year, for the show Vida . To make matters worse, LADC seduced viewers from all over the world when it appeared in the video clip of the song Bailando, composed by the Cuban Descemer Bueno and sung first with the local duo Gente de Zona and time later with the Spanish Enrique Iglesias.
