The 16th International Symposium on Latin American Thought began on Wednesday at the ''Marta Abreu'' Central University of Las Villas with the assistance of specialists from Europe and Latin America.

The event will run until June 28 in this higher education center, located on the outskirts of Santa Clara, capital of Villa Clara province, and is part of the 2nd International Scientific Convention on Science, Technology and Society, CCI 2019. Outstanding Mexican economist, sociologist and historian Dr. Carlos Antonio Aguirre opened the symposium on Wednesday, under the slogan 'The political map of Latin America in 2019.' Figures from Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Cuba are participating in the event, with an agenda of issues related to philosophy, economics and politics facing the neoliberal offensive in Latin America after 60 years of the Cuban Revolution. Philosopher Rafael Pla, organizer of the event, told Prensa Latina that it is comforting to have academic, political, religious, artistic and social movement researchers in this meeting, all of them interested in the history and development of Latin American philosophical and social thought. About 24 specialists organized in 10 committees are attending the event. They will discuss 91 papers with many issues such as the experience of the Cuban Revolution 60 years after the rebel triumph, Latin American philosophical anthropology, cultural identity in Latin America and the Caribbean, among others.
