Generally associated with stunning landscapes, such as mountain ecosystems or hilly areas irrigated by rivers with great dragging power due to their flow, the so-called terrigenous beaches appear on certain Cuban coastlines, beware, not alien, very rare, counted and unique by the composition, relief and beauty.
It is true that these coastal areas are less appreciated, suitable for bathing and diving in complete safety, formed by particles of rocks and sand produced by intense erosion caused by Nature. A long process of degradation of stones and of the terrestrial surface, due to the action of the elements, caused them to be born in very wild areas, generally with a virginal and very rustic appearance. That is why its beauty is very different and its excellence does not diminish, although its tourist potential has yet to be enhanced, according to its possibilities.
The Cuban beach with this classification, considered the most famous, is Bibijagua -name taken from an autochthonous insect-, located in the Isla de la Juventud, a special municipality of Cuba nestled in Caribbean waters, south of the Gulf of Batabanó and Havana. They say that most of the rest of these almost secret and dreamy coastlines are located on both coasts, north and south, of the eastern part of Cuba, in the southern part of the imposing Sierra Maestra, and when going up on the map of the Island , also in the east, the others are in the Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa massif, which faces the North Atlantic (From Holguín to Guantánamo).
There are others in the Guamuhaya massif, in the central region. Bibijagua, as we have already said, is to the north of Isla de la Juventud, very close to coral reefs, the Colony Hotel and areas of dazzling beauty, full of stories and legends of corsairs and pirates. Beyond its magnificent warm waters, the traveler is surprised by the black color of the Bibijagua sands, a characteristic caused by the erosion suffered by nearby black marble quarries.
The natural erosive action led to very fine sand that is not uncomfortable at all, despite its composition in which rocks of marble origin and silica predominate. In that area, its popularity has always been very high and in the middle of the 20th century, some motels and houses were built on the property that provided pleasant and quality accommodation to numerous vacationers. The sunsets are spectacular for those places so contrasting with the common. An impressive view is offered by the so-called Cayería de los Inglesitos, in the distance from the beach, which actually form a small set of islets protecting the coast.
