A fruitful versatile musical task characterized the life of Isolina Carrillo, author of the immortal song Two Gardenias, recorded in the 1940s the song is still heard in any space anywhere in the world.

"Two gardenias for you, / They will have all the warmth of a kiss; / Of those kisses that I gave you / And that you will never find / In the heat of another love ", say some verses of this song that already in 1952 received an Ariel Award in Mexico for its position in the public's preference.

Isolina Carrillo Estrada was born in Havana on December 9, 1907 and from a very young age she was inclined towards music, to the point that at the age of 10, at the request of her father, she replaced the pianist of the group that supported the functions of the capital’s Strand cinema.

She studied at the Municipal Conservatory of Havana and became a pianist of excellence, according to critics; but she also played the organ, the guitar and the Cuban tres, the trumpet, the bongo ... she sang, led bands, was a teacher ... In 1933 she created the female septet The trobadours of the key; in 1940 she created the Siboney quintet. Starting in 1938, she also worked at the CMQ radio station and later at the RHC Cadena Azul, where she formed a giant orchestra of danzones, among other moments of her work, during which she toured countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Panama, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador.

In addition to the classic Two Gardenias, other songs of her authorship stood out on the Hispanic-American musical staff, among them, Kissing Party, Loveless Song, Incredible and other pieces of a variety of genres of Cuban and universal music, such as sones, guarachas, Brazilian rhythms and lyrical songs.

Isolina Carrillo passed away on February 21, 1996 in her hometown, where she, until advanced age, continued to contribute to music and the training of young talents.
