The eastern and northern province of Las Tunas welcomes travelers who arrive by road, from the center and the west, to the eastern region of Cuba, famous for its natural beauties, history, culture and for its indomitable and hospitable people. Its natives proudly call it "the balcony of Cuba", a beautiful metaphor that summarizes many of its virtues.
Speaking without delay of the charms of that land, we tell you about the fascinating Covarrubias beach, where there is also an International Diving Center, with the same name, both ready for very efficient services to national and foreign tourism.
With fine sand stretches along 10 km of coastline, its marine platform becomes very crystal clear and deep, which makes it ideal for bathing and diving. Its sea beds are very well supplied with living treasures provided by a coral reef and also by archaeological remains made up of fragments of boats from the days of pirates and corsairs. In short, they say that lovers of snorkeling or diving are at ease there, since there are more than 21 immersion points.
Still without entering the beautiful and shining city of Las Tunas, capital of the province, we are going to a smaller city, named Puerto Padre, with an epithet that defines it as "the blue city", for being a very beautiful port window , open to the North Atlantic. Beautiful "inland" town, traditional and very lively. Puerto Padre offers other good beaches, including those named Playa La Boca and Playa La Llanita, located on the shores of the bay.
Following a country route, we will enter the region where the Cerro de Caisimú is located, at 124 meters above sea level, traveling the road that connects the municipality of Las Tunas with that of Manatí, in the north of the province.
It is one of the highest points of the Las Tunas relief, a region best known for its vast plains. That elevation is part of its history, since it was the scene of many actions of the libertarian campaigns. At the same time, it is considered a paradisiacal site, due to the richness of its flora and fauna and the beauty the landscapes offer.
Already in the vicinity of Las Tunas, we invite you to visit the complex called El Cornito, whose name was taken from the stream that runs through it, a cozy place where the poet Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, “El Cucalambé”, of national importance, was born.
The cultural, recreational and tourist entity that works in the beautiful area, extends for about eight kilometers until it almost connects with the Livestock Fair, the rodeo, the amusement park, the zoo, the botanical garden of the city, which closes with a dreamy bamboo forest.
Let's fly as a bird to Mount Cabaniguán, in the south of the province, a protected area that develops the largest breeding ground for the American crocodile or Acutus. There, beautiful large birds proliferate such as herons, flamingos, pelicans, among others, and you can opt for sport fishing with prized species: barracudas, cuberas, wahooes, and marlins.
With a flourish we end the suggestions arriving at the idyllic Lago Azul, which you will find 35 kilometers from the city of Las Tunas, on the way to the Covarrubias spa. Precious vision and place of recreation, it has an extension close to a square kilometer. The seductive color of its mirror of water is due to the mineral components present in the waters, reported to be beneficial for health.
Still under development, in its surroundings there are gastronomic services and you can arrange guided tours and rental of nautical equipment, among other benefits.
