UNESCO recognizes the knowledge of Cuban rum masters as  cultural world heritage

The UNESCO Deputy Director General for Culture, Ernesto Ottone, delivered the certificate of inscription as intangible cultural heritage of humanity of the knowledge of the Cuban rum masters to the first masters Juan Carlos González and César Martí.

During the ceremony that took place at the headquarters of that organization in the capital of France, González and Martí thanked the Intergovernmental Committee of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for accepting the proposal and all the people who contributed to its materialization, according to information givenby Prensa Latina.

Both specialists believed that the registration constitutes a commitment to continue working and enriching this part of the history, culture, traditions and identity of the Cuban nation.During the ceremony, organized by the ambassadors of Cuba to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel, and in France, Otto Vaillant, the diplomat highlighted the importance of transmitting the knowledge of the masters of light rum and the will of the Cuban state to protect itsheritage.

Also speaking at the celebration, Cuban Vice Minister of Culture Kenelma Carvajal congratulated the rum masters, whose knowledge constitutes a centenary tradition that emerged at the dawn of the formation process of the Cuban nation, as well as a symbol of identityof people that has defended its culture, she highlighted.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Director General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences, Gabriela Ramos, the President of Cuba Ron S.A., Orlando Borrero, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in that European country, as well as other personalities.

 A great congratulations and recognition reaches all Cuban rum cultivators and, especially, to the one who dedicated his life to this art, the First Master of Cuban Rum, José Pablo Navarro, who passed away just two years ago.
