Just a few days remain for the 4th Varadero International Marathon, which for the first time includes the Olympic modality of 42 kilometers and 195 meters, extremely attractive, especially for runners with vast experience.
According to information from the organizers, the details are being finalized for this long-awaited competition on April 2, in which the half marathon (21 km), the 10-kilometer race, the popular 3-km race and that of skates at a distance of 42 kms.
The start and finish point is the Central Park (known as the one with the 8,000 ticket offices) of that spa city, a flat circuit that includes the main arteries of that beautiful city of Matanzas and from many of them walkers will be able to enjoy beautiful views of the famous blue beach.
Convened by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) and the Cuban Athletics Federation, the competition will serve as the national half marathon championship and as a tournament of the Athletics Association of North, Central and Caribbean America 2023 (Nacac, acronym in English) for that distance.
On the eve of the event, numerous activities related to the event are planned, including Varadero Skate Marathon 2023, in which skaters will compete in the distances of the marathon, half marathon, 10 kilometers and speed in 100 meters.
As reported on the JIT site (INDER publication), something new on this occasion is that medals and trophies were made from recycled wood and the big numbers will be delivered at the competition venue the day before the race.
The I Edition of the Varadero International Half Marathon was held on April 15, 2018 with the participation of more than 800 runners of 15 different nationalities. In 2019, the number of participants totaled 2,000 and this time a considerable number of walkers is expected.
