The International Parachuting Center in Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas, will host the 7th edition of the Latin American Parachuting Championship, to be held from the 20th to the 25th of this month, with the participation of 27 foreign athletes and 20 Cubans.
According to information published by JIT, the official site of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), René González, president of the Cuban Aviation Club (CAC), reported that representatives from Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, Montenegro, Russia and Cuba will be present at the event.
Russia and Cuba, the note adds, will each present two teams, and the host country will also have a female selection of athletes from the Revolutionary Armed Forces. According to González, the winners of the National Championship, which will take place from this Saturday until the 15th in the eastern city of Baracoa, will participate from the island.
The event, organized by the CAC and the Latin American Parachuting Confederation (COLPAR Siglo XXI), will award prizes to the winning team and the best parachutist of both sexes, and its main objective is to exchange experiences and strengthen the relations of friendship and camaraderie between the national and foreign parachutists, judges and support staff for the event, as well as to encourage the practice of precision jumps and improve techniques.
Precision jumping is a modality in which the parachutist jumps to an altitude of about 1,200 meters to land as accurately as possible on a target marked on the ground in the form of a bull's-eye. Skydiving is an extreme sport that involves great sensations, including fun, adventure, adrenaline and camaraderie.
