Work continues in search for victims of the Havana hotel explosion

The search for the victims of the explosion at the Saratoga hotel in the capital continues today in very complex and difficult conditions, to find three workers who are still missing, the spokesman for the Gaviota group, Roberto Enríquez, declared on Tuesday.

In a press conference offered at the Habana Libre hotel, the spokesperson designated by the entity, to which the Saratoga hotel belongs, explained that of the 51 employees who were in the facility at the time of the incident, 22 are on medical discharge and recovering. of injuries, and three still hospitalized, of which one is reported as serious critical, another serious stable and the third in careful conditions, but out of danger.

He lamented the loss of life of 23 hotel workers, 13 men and 10 women, while two waitresses and a cook remain missing.

In another part of his speech, he said that the group he represents and its territorial delegation in Havana prioritize accompanying the families of the victims of the explosion, while he recognized the efforts of the rescue and rescue brigades and the medical and paramedical personnel. and the forces of the Ministry of the Interior and the Revolutionary Armed Forces and other people who have contributed to the rescue efforts.

For her part, speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), Katia Casal, signified the rapid response of all the institutions in the sector that mobilized to offer help, which is evidenced by the fact that some 1,500 workers donated blood.

She reiterated the Mintur's condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the event and thanked the work carried out by different institutions from the moment of the event.

On May 6, around 11 in the morning, Cuban time, an explosion occurred in the Saratoga hotel in the capital, due to the accumulation of gas during the supply of that fuel to the facility -as reported- , with a total balance so far of 40 deceased and 94 injured.
