Every September 5, for the past five years, World Tourism Journalist Day has been celebrated, an extremely important specialty within communication, since the the main task of professionals in the field is to inform about the various aspects of the so-called smoke-free industry, which every day acquires greater relevance in the world.
The declaration of this world day arose during the Eighth Congress of Journalists and Tourism Professionals, held in the Argentine city of Iguazú in 2018, with the official approval of the World Tourism Journalism Organization (OMPT) and the Latin American Alliance of Tourism Journalists, among other institutions.
Cuba, a small Caribbean island, is currently one of the tourist destinations par excellence of the region, hence the importance of the work of the press to publicize the beauties of its beaches, its nature, its culture, its history and its traditions.
Today that sector of the Cuban economy is the second source of income for the Product Gross Domestic with around 10%, which shows the importance of the press as an industry promoter. It is precisely for this reason that more and more importance is attached to the specialized press and, an example of this, is that the UPEC (Union of Cuban Journalists) through its specialized section organizes a seminar every year to update professionals of the sector on how to improve the diffusion of the travel industry in the largest of the Antilles and in Latin America.
In addition to the Cuban media, both written and radio or television that usually address the issue in one way or another, on the island there are accredited close to two dozen specialized magazines and newspapers to promote tourism.
Precisely our magazine, CubaPLUS is one of those media that, like Viajeros, Buen Viaje a Cuba, TTC, TMG News, Bienvenidos and Excelencias, just to name a few, that daily show the benefits that await tourists who visit the island and, above all, the friendliness and Cuban hospitality.
This note cannot be finished without mentioning the role that social networks play today in the promotion of tourism because, in the vast majority of cases, many people without being journalists dedicate large spaces on Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter) to offer their vacation or outing experiences and, with this, they also become communicators.
A big congratulations for this day and the wish they continue promoting an industry that deserves to be recognized for the benefit it represents for all, of course, always taking care of the environment into account.
