The XVII International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism began this Monday at the International Journalism Institute “José Martí” with the participation of about 60 professionals, of which 45 are foreigners from Latin America and Canada. This important meeting, convened by that institution, its tourism department and the support from the ministry of the sector (Mintur), will run until the 21st and includes an extensive program of meetings, seminars and workshops, all related to that important industry. The program includes three academic days with important speakers including the DrC. Hilary Becker of Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, José Luis Perelló, academic specialist in tourism issues in Cuba and Pavel Pavón Vargas, director of Technologies of the Mintur.
Other activities include visits to emblematic places in the Cuban capital, including La Bodeguita del Medio, El Floridita, the Havana Club Rum Museum and will share a night at the Tropicana cabaret. To finish the tour, you will also visit the tourist center of Varadero, the most important sun and beach destination in the country.
The organizers consider this event is of utmost importance as it has participants who are even founders of these events and, furthermore, because it generates numerous bonds of friendship among the attendees and allows Cuba to be promoted as a tourist destination.
