With the joy of dancing a distinctive musical genre par excellence of this Caribbean country worldwide, the Day of Cuban "Son" is celebrated here on Wednesday. This festivity, which takes place every year on May 8, is an initiative promoted since 2019 by late maestro and musician Adalberto Alvarez (1948-2021) to honor two iconic “son” singers who were born on this day in Cuba: Miguel Matamoros in 1894 and Miguelito Cuní in 1917.

Although the first Cuban tourism organizations date back to the second decade of the last century, it was not until after 1959, with the triumph of the Revolution that the first steps were taken for the development of this industry with the objective to structure tourism that responds to the cultural, historical and social values of the country.
