Past and present at the Hacienda de Guachinango

Founded on the premises of a cattle ranch previously exploited by a string of different owners, the Hacienda de Guachinango began to be known after the construction of its beautiful Main House, late 18th century.

After so many years, restored and preserved by a process initiated by the Cuban state, its last owner, the former colonial mansion constitutes a very notable tourist interest place in the so-called Valle de los Ingenios, a World Heritage Site, near to the beautiful Cuban city of Trinidad, in Sancti Spíritus.

The old house rises in an area of 392 square meters and It is a kind of museum that has a magnificent portal which leads to the hall, escorted by rooms to one and the other side. A large mixtilinear arch connects the living room with the dining room from where the link to the apartments (rooms) also flows in harmony, while at the ends of the structural rectangle there are work offices.

In that mansion, typical of its foundational period, a great prominence to the portal, with a tiled roof supported by hardwood posts, with a rugged, country feel that still gives it a great charm.

Near that hacienda the incessant activity of the Guáimaro mill, which, as in Manacas-Iznaga and Guachinango, preserves the precious wooden bars of the windows, first material used in Cuba for the bars, before going to the forged iron filigree.

Guachinango has the merit of crystallizing an earlier era, propitious of the economic and cultural splendor that later had the area of Valle de los Ingenios, established in the 19th century, when the the famous boom of the Cuban sugar industry, generator of the prosperity of Trinidad.

Other valuable elements in the Guachinango farm are the carvings in crescent shape and rosettes placed on boards, made in initial times. Today the environment of the mansion is perfect for horseback riding or walking tours that can lead to various places of interest such as bathing in the river, bird watching and getting to know the hospitality and joy of the locals.

There, you will be able to learn about the old custom of obtaining coffee powder from of a primitive instrument called pylon, where the roasted grain is pulverized with patience and, even, you will be able to put the tack on a horse you will ride if you wish. And if you also want to milk a cow, you can do it, as well as feed small pets.

Very simple but elementary acts almost disappeared, due to the rhythm of modernity. However, they produce peace and bliss.
