The Varadero spa, second best in the world according to the awards Travelers Choice 2022, will host the 19th World Photography Championship Submarine to take place from October 9 to 14, announced today at a conference the director of Communication of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), Yadira Ramirez.
Within the contest, added the executive, the fifth Championship will also take place Underwater Video World Cup, and so far they have confirmed the presence in both contests about 60 photographers from 20 countries, including Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, Norway, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Finland. For his part, Francisco Ferrera, representative in Cuba of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS) explained that each country participates with two photographers and two cameramen, selected in their respective national championships, who have to their credit several international awards and numerous followers.
All the conditions for the development of a safe event are guaranteed, with boats, locations in depths up to 30 meters, divers assistants and between 50-55 minutes for immersion in the transparent waters of the north coast on the Hicacos Peninsula, he said.
In the contest, which for the first time takes place in Cuba to the delight of the organizers, three judges will intervene to select the finalist contestants in four categories, while another 20 will issue verdicts online to choose the winners.
In turn, Francisco Longini, director of Events and Incentives at the Ecotur agency -receptive to the event- explained that the competition program will last three days, with the inauguration on the 9th and the closing on the 14th at the Meliá Internacional hotel in Varadero. This championship is organized by the Mintur under the auspices of CMAS.
